That Special Moment in Yachting I Love the Most — and Why I’m Grateful for This Work
For a long time, I thought my career would be something clearly defined — something logical, structured, and predictable. I was happy with that idea. But life had a different plan for me — one specific plan that was shaped by the sea from the very beginning.
I grew up by the Azov Sea in Mariupol, Ukraine, where the horizon was always open and movement felt natural. At the time, I didn’t know that this quiet presence of water would later become the anchor of my life and work. I never thought I would find a way to stay in the marine industry in my own way and continue the legacy of my father’s and brother’s professions — both are sea captains.
But first, for a couple of years in 2010, and then later in 2017 for good, I settled into the yacht charter industry, helping travelers from around the world discover the most beautiful coastlines from the decks of luxury crewed yachts.
There is one particular moment in yachting that, for me, contains everything I love. It happens quietly, almost unnoticed by those who haven’t felt it before. But those who have experienced it will confirm — it truly is something special.
It is the moment when the yacht is still tied to the dock, but all the guests and crew are already on board, ready to set off towards something new and something truly your own — planned and organized intentionally, just for you.
Several crew members slowly release the lines that were tying the yacht to the shore. Another crew member raises the anchor. The yacht doesn’t rush to leave the harbor; instead, she gently moves away from the dock — unhurried, confident, calm.
And then, when the anchor is fully lifted, she gains speed and leaves the port behind, heading toward her first anchorage. The captain stands confidently at the helm, the crew coils and stows the ropes, stewardesses prepare everything for the guests’ - for your comfort. And you — you are simply there, enjoying the integrity of the process, where everything and everyone is in their place.
This moment is pure magic. It is the time when something inside you lets go. And it’s not because your responsibilities “left behind onshore” disappear — they don’t. But because, for the first time in a long while, you know they can wait. You know that something is finally happening for you, just as you wanted.
Everything is under control. Everything will be handled. But now — you are here, on the water, with yourself.
The yacht will soon bring you to new beautiful places, where you’ll enjoy so many things — great food, the thoughtful care of the crew, soft beds, the sound of the sea, water toys, swimming, sunbathing, listening to your favorite music, feeling as if you’re in your own movie, surrounded by so much beauty. This very moment of leaving the harbor is the beginning of your own cinematic experience.
This is the only feeling in my life where I truly sense a complete disconnection from daily schedules, rules, speed, and expectations. Not escape — but trust. Trust that life is stable enough for you to rest.
That is why I love yachting. Knowing that people will experience this moment on board fulfills me in my work.
A yacht doesn’t just take you to beautiful places. It resets your nervous system, your thoughts, your body. I truly believe that something shifts at a cellular level.
And then you return to shore not just rested, but renewed — as if you’ve been gently reassembled into a more relaxed and present version of yourself.
I deeply believe that life on a yacht awakens our inner child. Not in a careless way — but in a safe one. On board, you enter an environment where you are cared for. Where meals appear without effort. Where someone thinks ahead for you. Where your only real task is to feel, notice, and enjoy.
And this, to me, is one of the most powerful human experiences: being cared for with intention.
This is why my work means so much to me. I am part of something deeply meaningful — I help create the space where people can truly reset. And the truth is, I reset with them too.
This blog is not about yachts alone.
It is about the feeling of departure & adventure.
About the moment when the ropes are cast off.
About the quiet relief of knowing that, for now, you are exactly where you need to be.
Welcome on board!
