Aliée Istanbul Hotel Review: Luxury Stay at the Historic Ottoman Shipyard

Last month, I visited Aliée Istanbul for a private site inspection. As a luxury yacht charter broker, I often get asked where to stay before or after a Blue Cruise along the Turkish Riviera. Would I recommend adding this hotel to your bucket list? Let’s see what your guess will be after experiencing it with me through the words and images I captured.

The poetry of the first view
You know when you enter a lobby of a luxury 5-star hotel, it usually feels all «grandeur» - everyone in uniform with golden luggage trolleys and doormen in white gloves. This is usually the signature of a premium space. When I entered the Aliée lobby, I found myself feeling as if I were in some cool, vibrant, yet not loud, Mediterranean resort-like luxury space. I felt the atmosphere of the place, but without a formal, serious tone.
Two steps farther — and my jaw dropped. Just behind the reception, I saw a totally new world unfolding — a huge space extending down and rising up with high ceilings. This was a restaurant with great design, olive trees, a beautiful bar, and full-height windows through which, on that sunny day, I saw a mosque on the other bank of the Golden Horn. This was like poetry.
I didn’t expect all this before my visit to Aliée Istanbul. I passed by this hotel several times before, but never entered inside. From the outside, the hotel looked well-established, slightly modest, definitely not screaming for attention — as I understand, this is part of the Paris Society philosophy. So yes, well done, Aliée. You made it clear: you know how to surprise your guests but you're not running to do it loudly. And this «character feature» followed me in every further space I had the honor and pleasure to explore that day.
Why an honor? How many times do we have a chance to witness how a mix of a brave, beautiful, bold idea, long-term philosophy, as well as love for history, heritage, art, unwavering service, architecture, travel, and experiences come alive into a project so deep, special, so unusual? Here you have one of those rare chances.
The Shipyard’s Renaissance
I imagine Aliée’s founders, for the right reasons, wouldn’t choose an ordinary building and location for their special baby. This personage - a hotel that belongs to a family of the Paris Society Collection - «sits» in one of the most unique areas of Istanbul, within the historic Ottoman imperial shipyard.
For centuries, this stretch of the Golden Horn was the birthplace of imperial vessels for the Ottoman maritime power. Today, the vast restoration of the historic shipyard is nearly completed. Its main goal is to carefully transform what was once an industrial stronghold into one of Istanbul’s most ambitious cultural & luxury waterfront projects. With Aliée at its center and retail spaces next to it, as well as galleries, restaurants, and premium residences — the area has entered a new chapter. Former naval workshops of stone and steel have been reimagined as spaces of design, art, and contemporary elegance. When you stand here, you don’t just see architecture; you sense layers of time.
The Identity
I do agree with the belief that every hotel has a heartbeat. Beyond the 5-star label, if you’d ask me how to describe Aliée’s soul, I would definitely choose these three words: arty, tasty, and mindful.
Arty: For Aliée Istanbul, art is not a decoration - here and there. It is part of the hotel’s DNA. There are art pieces literally at every corner of the social spaces. The hotel even has its own art curator to guide the guests through a living collection. You can check some of them on the hotel’s website.
Tasty: With nine very different culinary venues, Aliée offers its guests the opportunity to embark on a journey through both Istanbul’s rich heritage and Paris Society’s signature flavors. The Mediterranean vibe at Little House, the electric rhythm of a Parisian night at Mondaine de Pariso, discovery-led menus at Taste, Hasbahçe with its seaside charm and copper-fired pizzas - there is a delicious solution for every lezzet (‘flavor’ in Turkish) . You can even hide away in the cozy Wine Bar with a vintage in your glass or enjoy a bright sunset-themed cocktail at the Pink Bar. You name it, you choose it.
Mindful: What Aliée Istanbul has to offer its guests in terms of wellness can be shortly described - in my own imagination - as an ultra-modern, Swiss-like medical and wellness space that even a mega yacht doesn’t seem to be able to offer—unless I just don’t know of such existing.
I don’t think there is anyone left these days not thinking about their mind & body’s health. So for those interested or focused on longevity, Aliée has a 4,000-square-meter hybrid sanctuary that features therapy suites, a marble Turkish hammam, and specialized saunas (Infrared, Finnish, and Russian). Most unique is the Biohacking program, offering Cryotherapy, Oxygen therapy, and Vibroacoustic treatments. This is paired with Well+ Active, a state-of-the-art gym with custom equipment and a "million-dollar» view over the Golden Horn. Here, you feel professional and caring support in your every goal.

Behind the Doors
While outside of the suites and chambres , Aliée looks and feels social, open, and engaging in a dialogue of discovery, behind the doors of its guests’ temporary travel homes, there’s a totally different feeling. I appreciate Berfin Hanim taking the time to show me three types of accommodation for the guests.
First was the Terrasse Suite, occupying the top level of the Casthouse. When I entered, the first thing I noticed was the space. The suite was big, luminous, and airy — a place where you feel like you could dance or circle with open arms like a Dervish and barely touch the walls. The furniture, the design, the record player, and the copper bathtub next to the window overlooking the Golden Horn and the sunset. I mean, where do I even stop describing the beauty of the suite? Having Istanbul’s historic heart in your palm in front of you left me speechless. Plus, the Terrasse Suite at Aliée Istanbul has its own private outdoor terrace — true luxury where you can reflect, have a cup of Turkish coffee or tea, read a book in your own secluded space, while «just next door» a 20-million-people city is being busy like a beehive. Here, you don't feel that rush.
Next was the Véranda Suite. And here’s where my heart literally skipped a beat. This «room» is located on the ground floor. Besides having towering ceilings and a chic bar that looks like a piece of stylish furniture, the Véranda Suite in Aliée hotel in Istanbul gives its guests a private garden with an open-air fireplace, sun beds, cute little trees, a sitting and lounging area, and a gate behind which there is a direct access to the huge pool overlooking the Golden Horn (actually, two pools). This villa experience made me question whether I was in Istanbul, sunny Mallorca, or charming Eze in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
At around €3,000 plus taxes per night (let’s say, in May 2026), the Véranda Suite is actually priced below what a comparable level of privacy and atmosphere would cost at sea. To enjoy a “Master Suite” experience of this caliber on a yacht, you would likely be looking at a 35–45m motor yacht, ideally no older than a few seasons, chartering at approximately €230,000 per week plus VAT and APA. In other words, roughly more than €30,000+ per night once fully operational.
This is the reference point that came to my mind while standing in that private garden with direct pool access and the Golden Horn in front of me. The scale of space, privacy, and design felt very much within that ultra-premium maritime category.
Finally, the Liberté Suite — the Presidential accommodation at the crown of the Atelier building. It made me feel like I have travelled very very far away from everywhere & everything, yet - I was just a message or a call away from my personal Butler with anything I needed for my comfort. 250 sqm private penthouse feels like home - 2 rooms, panoramic sea view, a maxibar, a living room, a private terrace, cosy fireplace & much more to enjoy. Visiting the most expensive suite is for sure a memorable experience.
The Personal & Professional
Why Aliée, and why would I care so much about hotels if my expertise is luxury charter yachts? When I was writing my thesis at university in Milan, I worked briefly in Starwood Hotels & Resorts’ Global Sales. This experience, together with a taste for beautiful homes and design from living in Italy for almost five years, made me fall in love with luxury properties once & forever. This is the personal side. The professional reason is to be able to recommend something truly unique to my clients who travel to Turkey. I often get asked to recommend a hotel, a restaurant, or an experience in Istanbul, so knowing the "best of the best" is in my professional nature. I know how this hotel stay will fit into a perfect 10-day or longer Turkey experience or a shorter escape just to the «New Rome» city. This is my job, but it is also my passion.
The Aliée guest
I think the Aliée guest doesn’t have just one profile. I see a modern-minded couple or a family traveling & enjoying the world and discovering its colors, tastes, senses. It’s also someone who appreciates history, art, the heritage concept, and culinary excellence. It can be a solo traveler who loves changing the "picture" in front of them, or someone who fell in love with Istanbul and wants an extraordinary long weekend date with the city. I even see families building a yacht with one of Istanbul’s shipyards who want to stay in the heart of the Golden Horn. Or a traveler who came to explore the city’s art collection with the guidance of the art curator from the Aliée Istanbul. I see many faces, and all of them carry one common feature—a love and appreciation of life.
Imagine the flow
Once you disembark from a 35m Sanlorenzo in Bodrum, maybe stay at Maçakızı, Mandarin Oriental, or Caresse for several nights, then board Turkish Airlines to Istanbul from Bodrum Milas airport. Upon the arrival after a one-hour flight, your personal driver takes you to Aliée Hotel. From the Riviera vibes, you arrive at the busy forum, but you’re staying in a cozy, artistic luxury hotel by the water with indoor and outdoor pools and a waterfront restaurant. You can take a boat tour to discover the stunning Bosphorus and watch historical sunsets over and over again. You’ll agree that you’ve made the right choice to book Aliée Istanbul before heading back home or continuing your odyssey. To me, this feels like a perfectly balanced Turkish journey. And add to this a ‘secret'-like experience Aliée can arrange for you: a night at Mondaine de Pariso Istanbul with a dinner reflecting Belle Époque grandeur and 19th-century Parisian vibes. We could plan for you a short escape to Cappadocia as well, with those magic balloon rides, Moon-like surreal landscapes, and a luxury stay at Argos hotel, for example. Why not! Feel free to reach out for a travel consultation.
At the beginning of this article, I asked whether this hotel deserves a place on your bucket list. By now, perhaps you already know your answer. As for mine — yes, I would add Aliée without a second thought. For the atmosphere & feeling, the layers of history beneath its floors., the art, the comfort, the diversity and quality.
My special dedication
And perhaps this is why this place resonated with me even deeper - I dedicate this sensory travel essay to my father — a seaman, a captain who has just left this world, and from whom I inherited my love & passion for travel, the sea, architecture, art, culinary tastes, and extraordinary places. Thank you, my dear papa! You’re always in my heart. And I know you'd love discovering all these unique places together.
