My Top Favorite Luxury Hotels in Istanbul in 2026

Istanbul stole my heart when I first came here in 2010. I was on my way from Marmaris, where I had just completed a 6-month contract working on a luxury charter gulet, Clarissa. I was flying from Dalaman to Odessa via Istanbul, and since I had a long stopover, I decided to spend that time discovering the old town. Back then, the old Istanbul airport was still operating, so the historical part of this amazing city wasn’t very far.

Ornate ceiling with intricate gold and blue patterns, detailed frescoes, and architectural arches, creating a lavish, historic atmosphere.

From my first sightseeing bus tour — as I thought that was the only way to get a feeling for this never-ending city when you have limited time — I fell in love with the grandeur, history, vibe, mood of the city, and the harmonious combination of ordinary neighborhoods and luxurious ones.

Many years later, when I realized that my true home city was actually Istanbul, after living in other cities and countries, I moved here and have been happy ever since. I love exploring it — its streets, facades, bridges, districts, hotels, terraces, restaurants, and neighborhoods — both for my own curiosity and to share this knowledge with my clients and friends who travel here.

Yacht guests sometimes choose to spend 2–3 days here before or after their charter, and I’m happy to share my insights, help with planning, or even assist with booking experiences and hotels for them. Our company also holds a travel agency license, which allows us to provide this as an additional service.

In this article, I decided to focus on beautiful luxury hotels that I have visited or stayed in myself. Of course, there are many more exceptional properties in this vast city, so this simply means more articles will be coming in the future. The hotels I mention here have wonderful locations and atmosphere — perfect for enjoying Istanbul in style.

Swissôtel The Bosphorus

Visnezade Mah. Acisu Sok. N. 19, 34357 Macka Besiktas Istanbul

Swissôtel offers not only luxury accommodation and great service, but also stunning views over the Bosphorus. The hotel is located just outside the main historical part of Istanbul, which means you’ll need to travel around the city by taxi or transfer car. But if you prefer to stay in an area that feels spacious, not overcrowded with people or buildings, then Swissôtel could be your choice.

Located above Dolmabahçe Palace, it offers spacious rooms and large gardens (which are rare for Istanbul). It’s a solid option if you want luxury without fuss. What I personally love about it (besides the location and the view) is its Roof 16 terrace bar on top of the hotel, overlooking not only the Bosphorus but also Istanbul’s iconic historical sites and the beautiful Asian side (where I live).

This rooftop bar hosts famous DJs all year round, but especially in summer it is fun to come here and dance under the stars in this never-ending city.

The Peninsula Istanbul

Kemankeş Karamustafa Paşa, Kemankeş Cd. No:34, 34425 Beyoğlu/İstanbul

If you can afford staying here, then this is it. It is the ultimate choice, located in the heart of the city. Can you imagine swimming in the pool while enjoying views of Galata Bridge, famous ferries navigating the Bosphorus, and the world-renowned Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace? Yes, this is the experience The Peninsula offers to its guests.

I had a special tour around the property organized for my friend (who also works in the ultra-luxury travel segment) and me, and I was amazed by the rooms, the design, the location — everything.

The Peninsula is Istanbul’s relatively newest luxury icon, and you feel it immediately when you walk in. Located right on the Bosphorus within the Galataport complex, it blends modern elegance with historical architecture. The hotel attracts a very international, high-end guests and offers enormous rooms, waterfront dining, and seamless service.

Just imagine: you walk out of the hotel and you’re literally in the heart of the city. Karaköy, Galata Tower, Galata Bridge, and the Golden Horn are all within walking distance, and you can even easily reach Sultanahmet on foot if you enjoy walking — or experience public transport by taking a tram to the mosques or the Grand Bazaar. This is an easy way to get around if not to deal with the taxi. Of course, a private transfer car would be the most amazing option.

I love everything about The Peninsula, no doubt about it. And one of my favorite time to stare at its beauty is in the evening when fully illuminated, and seen from the deck of a ferry when you pass by the hotel. Truly breathtaking to see all the special atmosphere.

Rixos Tersane Istanbul

Camiikebir, Taşkızak Tersanesi Caddesi No:23/1, 34440 Beyoğlu/İstanbul

I think Rixos Tersane isn’t just a luxury hotel following ultra-luxury standards — it deserves its own status as a venue of art. This hotel sits inside one of the most exciting transformation areas of Istanbul, on the banks of the Golden Horn, at the location of the former Ottoman shipyard, now turned into a modern lifestyle district.

Rixos Tersane is especially appreciated by those who love modern architecture with historical vibes, fantastic views over the historical peninsula of Istanbul, and refined aesthetics. It feels fresh, expansive, and slightly futuristic. The waterfront promenade, restaurants, and cultural venues nearby make it a great option if you like contemporary Istanbul rather than classic old-town vibes.

However, next to the hotel they have opened a luxury shopping center with the famous Beymen department store, so it’s not so secluded as it was at the very beginning (just recently as it’s so new).

As for the location, it takes a short taxi ride or private transfer to reach the main touristic sites of Istanbul. It may feel slightly uncomfortable during rush hour, but the peace you get once you’re standing here overlooking the Golden Horn is absolutely worth it. There's always an option of water taxi to take you to the hotel and avoid any traffic.

Some time ago I was here at sunset for a Keinemusik concert right next to the hotel, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever lived through — largely because of the setting and the location.

If you don’t plan to stay at Rixos Tersane, you can still come here for a walk, coffee, or brunch to appreciate the work of art the developers have created by transforming the old shipyard into a luxury destination.

Çırağan Palace Kempinski

Yıldız, Çırağan Cd. No:32, 34349 Beşiktaş/İstanbul

Çırağan Palace — the name speaks for itself. You are literally staying in a palace, almost as magnificent as the world-famous Dolmabahçe Palace (basically almost next door).

This hotel is about history, grandeur, and imperial atmosphere. The outdoor infinity pool is legendary, especially at sunset. This is a hotel for those who want to feel Istanbul’s royal past while enjoying five-star-plus comfort. A perfect choice for honeymoons, anniversaries, or anyone wanting a true “once in a lifetime” stay.

This venue has appeared in many movies and hosts spectacular weddings. When you enter the lobby, you can immediately sense who has stayed here — there is hardly a famous name missing. You can check the names on the wall with the photographs of the famous people choosing Kempinksi.

I stayed here once, and it was truly a lifetime experience. Please note that Çırağan Palace Kempinski consists of two buildings: one is the historic palace itself with special rooms, and the other is a modern building. So if you want to stay inside the palace, make sure you book the palace wing.

Four Seasons Hotel Bosphorus

No:28, Çırağan Cd., 34349 Beşiktaş/İstanbul

Four Seasons has two properties in Istanbul, and both offer completely different experiences. I attended my friend’s wedding at Four Seasons Bosphorus. The hotel is elegant, waterfront, peaceful, and refined — it really doesn’t need an introduction.

I believe the name alone, combined with the Bosphorus location, speaks for itself. If you want timeless luxury with impeccable service, Four Seasons never disappoints. Four Seasons Bosphorus and Çırağan Palace Kempinski are also very close to each other, and both offer their guests exceptional locations.

Pera Palace Hotel

Meşrutiyet Caddesi, Evliya Çelebi, Tepebaşı Cd. No:52, 34430 Beyoğlu/İstanbul

Pera Palace Hotel was my very first luxury hotel experience in Istanbul. I stayed here for my birthday and couldn’t have chosen a more special place.

This is not just a hotel — it’s a living museum. Originally built for passengers of the Orient Express, Pera Palace carries stories in every corner.

The hotel is located in the historic district of Beyoğlu — the very heart of Istanbul — and offers a fantastic central position within walking distance of Istiklal Street, Galata Tower, and even Galata Bridge, with Soho House right next door.

Writers, kings, spies, and diplomats stayed here, including Agatha Christie, who is believed to have written part of Murder on the Orient Express during her stay, as well as Ernest Hemingway and Alfred Hitchcock. As a writer myself, you can imagine my excitement spending time here and feeling the energy of such an iconic past.

One of the most famous rooms is the Atatürk Room, preserved as a small museum in honor of the founder of modern Turkey. The hotel is also home to the second-oldest elevator in Europe, still operating today. The atmosphere is old-world, cinematic, and deeply nostalgic, with beautiful city views from its historic windows. If you love history, literature, and romance, this hotel offers an emotional experience as much as a physical stay.

During Christmas and New Year, it is beautifully decorated inside and truly feels like a movie setting. There is also a famous Netflix series about the hotel — Midnight at the Pera Palace. Watching it before your visit might make the experience even more magical.

Given all the above, I just want to wish you good luck choosing where to stay in Istanbul — because all of these places are wonderful, each has its own charm and will bring a unique atmosphere to your journey.

One thing is certain: wherever you choose, you’ll feel like you’re inside a movie — mostly because Istanbul itself is that kind of city.

On a personal note, Istanbul is not just a destination for me — it’s my home, filled with everything I love: history, architecture, character, culture, people, food, views, art, and soul. I live on the Asian side next to the iconic Bagdad Caddesi, in a peaceful neighborhood where mornings begin with sea air and evenings end with amazing sunset sky over European side in the distance. Living here allows me to see the city from the inside — not as a list of attractions, but as a living organism.

If you’re coming to Istanbul for a few days and want help with: choosing the right hotel, building a realistic sightseeing plan, booking transfers, guides, or special dinners, combining Istanbul with a yacht charter, discovering genuine places locals love, I’ll happily help you.
